We sell our homemade bin cages for $50 each. They are our cages of choice. Each cage is made from a clear plastic bin with wire mesh windows in each end for ventilation. Our cages are:
- Big enough. 432 square inches of floor space is more than adequate for an adult Syrian hamster.
- Highly visible. A clear bin with a clear lid give you a clear view of its contents from any angle.
- Convenient. The entire lid comes off for easy access and cleaning. No more awkwardly reaching in through side windows.
- Secure. There is no escaping from a cage like this, as long as you remember to latch the lid. Even the most chew-happy hamsters will find no place to gnaw a hole. The mesh is attached to the inside of the cages, so the plastic edge of the window is not exposed to their little teeth. We use 1/4" mesh, which not even the smallest pups can crawl through.
- Floor: 16" x 27"
- Lid: 19" x 32"
- Height: 14"
We make them on demand, so if you want to buy a cage when you come to pick up your hamster, you must let us know in advance.
But wait. Couldn't I just make something like this myself?
You certainly can. The supplies will probably cost about $25. We've told people this, but many still request a cage from us. We are happy to make and sell them because it helps offset our cost of hamster food, bedding, and other supplies.
